At his residence in Olivos, President Alberto Fernandez received, accompanied by the nation’s sports secretary Inés Arrondo, the secretary general of the International Basketball Federation, Andreas Zagklis, within the framework of the FIBA 2021 intercontinental final to be played today in the Sanitary Works stadium.
The Buenos Aires headquarters was chosen by FIBA considering the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and adopting a single-ended format for this edition.
The Quimsa Athletic Association of Santiago del Estero, current champion of the Americas Champions League Basketball, will face Hereda San Pablo Burgos of Spain, current champion of the European Champions League Basketball. The grand finale will be at the Obras Sanitarias stadium in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires today at 6pm.
Present at the meeting were Gerardo Antenor Montenegro, president of the Quimsa Athletic Association, current National Senator for Santiago del Estero and president of the National Association of Basketball Clubs, Fabian Borro, president of the Argentine Basketball Confederation and Gabriela Casini, sports director of Sanitary Works women’s basketball.
At the end of the meeting, Andreas Zagklis gave the president as a gift a replica of the official score sheet for the final of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games in which Argentina was champion with the golden generation, a historical fact of Argentine sport. For his part, Fabián Borro gave him a golden ball and a shirt with his name.
The final will be played today at 6 pm, at the Obras Sanitarias stadium in Buenos Aires and can be seen on Public TV.
