The great festival of water sports will take place in our country, from March 14 to 29, when the Absolute South American Championship of Water Sports Buenos Aires 2021 will be held in the Roca Park pool. The competition will be divided into two blocks: from 16 to 19 will be the protagonists swimming and artistic swimming, while from March 21 it will be the turn of the ornamental jumps, water polo and open water.
The DTN of the national swimming team Gustavo Roldán explained how our country will face this contest. “We have several swimmers who are training in their places of residence and others who will arrive from abroad. And the payroll that we have in mind will be completed with the best of a selective that will take place from February 22 to 25 at Parque Roca. It is an unusual scenario due to the pandemic, we could not do a concentration, but we had to adapt to reach the best state of form and I think that beyond all we will arrive at the tournament in very good condition ”.
As for Water Polo, the coach Daniel Poggi stressed that they started with the preparation for the South American “five weeks ago”. “We re-linked with the pool in October, after almost 9 months of inactivity due to COVID-19 and beyond the physical maintenance that the boys did at home, the re-adaptation took all of October and November. Now we aim to improve our physical condition even more in the face of the demands of this tournament and that is why we are working in the gym four times a week and every day on the technical and tactical aspects, ”he explained. The lack of competition at the local level presents them with a difficult scheme but they aspire to compensate for that “with a lot of training and with the call of 5 players who are having matches in Spain and France. Argentina aspires to “reaffirm the privileged place that water polo in our country has in South America and reach a definition: in the last tournament of this type we lost the final by a goal with Brazil and they have been having competition at the local level, today perhaps be one step above us ”.
Gabriela Viglino is one of the FINA evaluators of artistic swimming and is a member of the organizing committee. And he anticipated that Argentina will put up a strong team, including Camila Arregui and Trinidad López Brasesco, who are preparing for the pre-Olympic qualifier for Tokyo 2020. “We are combining the training sessions so that each team has their space. This will be one of the first face-to-face events of this magnitude, with the judges present. There are already confirmed participants from Brazil, Colombia and Uruguay. We are waiting for confirmations from Peru, Chile and also from Central American teams that were invited, ”he said. There will be technical, free, individual, duet and team routines.
This contest is organized by the South American Swimming Confederation (CONSANAT) and by the Argentine Water Sports Confederation (CADDA). “We have high expectations. And for me it will be an honor to be an evaluator in this contest and judge in the next Olympic Games ”, Viglino was enthusiastic.
