Basketball: an Argentine club fell in the final of the Intercontinental | Football24 News English

Quimsa de Santiago del Estero could not reach the goal and lost the final of the Intercontinental Cup against San Pablo Burgos of Spain, 82-73, in the match that took place in Buenos Aires, at the Templo del Rock stadium, by Obras Basket.

The team led by coach Sebastián González, who had come to this instance after winning the Americas Basketball Champions League last October (BCLA), cut differences and was five points below (70-75), just less than 2 minutes before the end of the game. However, despite the attempts, he could not achieve the comeback.

Those led by Joan Peñarroya were able to prevail, in part, thanks to the good performance of Vitor Benite, who was proclaimed as the top scorer of the Burgos team, with a balance of 19 points (1-9 in doubles, 5-8 in triples, 2-4 in free), 3 assists and 2 rebounds in the almost 28 minutes that he remained on the court.

In the history of the competition, Obras Sanitarias is the only Argentine team that won the trophy, in the 1983 edition, when they defeated Pallacanestro Cantú, from Italy. In addition, Obras (1978 and 1984), Ferro (1986) and Olimpia de Venado Tuerto (1996) finished runners-up. However, beyond the fact that he could not achieve the goal, the santiagueño team closed a great participation in the international contest.
