The Venezuelan Basketball Federation (FVB) published on Wednesday a list of 24 players who will be eligible to participate in the third FIBA Americup 2022 Qualifying window.
The national team will be present in the ‘bubble’ of Cali, where it will face its counterpart in Colombia on February 21 and the next day it will do the same against Chile.
The training sessions with some of the pre-selection players have already begun, which are concentrated in the Efrén García “Poliedrito” gym in Caracas and from there the coaching staff headed by Argentine Fernando Duró will decide the final squad that will travel to Colombian lands.

“In this window we are going to try to bring the two wins, we are going to try to play with a little more work and a little more training and take advantage of established players and young people. On the 8th the senior team starts training and I calculate that by that date we already have a first list of 15 players to travel with 14 for biosecurity issues. That is why we summoned this list of 24 players, ”Duró explained in an interview published on the FVB’s Instagram account.

For these two qualifying matches, the coaching staff targeted some new players, pointing to the transition process within the national team, as mentioned above. New to the list are five athletes.
The 18-year-old forward, Andrés Marrero, who sees action in American school basketball, aims to be one of the replacement figures in the Creole quintet. He has already seen action in the lower categories of the national team, he participated in the South American U-17.
Likewise, the Carabobeño, Fabrizio Pugliatti joins the new summoned for his outstanding performances with Stella Azzurra, a Seria A-2 team from Italy. This 2.01-meter guard has worn the Vinotinto colors, remaining runner-up in the South American U-14 disputed in Maturín in 2017.
For the intern Anyelo Cisneros, he is presented with a new opportunity to demonstrate his quality of play as he unveiled it in the first edition of the Basketball Super League (SLB) with Diablos de Miranda and then reinforced Guaiqueríes de Margarita. In local basketball he averaged 16.7 points and 10 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, the center of Guaiqueríes de Margarita, Ali Mata is one of the great promises for the basketball Vinotinto and will be under the scrutiny of the coaching staff, since that position has been the great debt of the team.
Raymond Rada, a forward who made his SLB debut with Brillantes de Maracaibo and left a good taste for fans and experts in the discipline, averaged 12.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per engagement.
Finally, point guard José Sojo, belonging to Llaneros de Guárico, left numbers of 6.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists in the first season of the SLB.
Consolidate in the team
In the last qualifying window held in the ‘bubble’ of Argentina, several Creole talents debuted with the Venezuelan team and now they will seek to continue making their way into the squad. José Materán averaged 6.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in the two games he played.
For their part, Eliezer Montaño and Arián Amundaray want to show what they are made of and that they seek to contribute to the generational change in the national team.

The Creole quintet has a 3-1 record in these qualifiers and has already beaten Colombia and Chile, rivals who were not easy at all in their duels. With one more victory, Fernando Duró’s men get into the 2022 continental tournament.
Michael Carrera is the player on the patio who has had the best performance in these windows, averaging 18.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game played.
