Dortmund (Germany), Feb 6 (dpa) – Borussia Dortmund of the Bundesliga will define “at some point” the new coach they will take on next season, the general director of the German soccer club, Hans-Joachim Watzke, said in a interview published today by the newspaper “WAZ”.
“We don’t get pressured and we take all the time we need,” Watzke said.
The Dortmund manager avoided giving details when asked about what should happen for the current coach, Edin Terzic, to continue in office.
“We are very relaxed when it comes to this matter. The greatest sincerity reigns between Edin and us, for many years,” he said.
In December, Terzic was promoted from assistant to the sacked Lucien Favre to head coach, initially until the end of the season, with consistent results thus far.
Watzke stressed, however, that Borussia Dortmund plays “better football now again”, with “a more aggressive style of play”. “But such a shift in focus cannot be carried out in a few weeks without problems,” he clarified.
The manager anticipated that the opinions of the sporting director, Michael Zorc, and Sebastian Kehl, will play an important role in the choice of the new Dortmund coach.
Watzke argued that he himself is “very far from the team” because of the coronavirus pandemic and that is why he takes distance when judging the sports situation of the team.
The Dortmund chief executive avoided citing names of possible Favre successors on the bench. “It would be disrespectful to speak of a coach who is currently working for another club,” he said.
According to some versions, Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Marco Rose could arrive at Dortmund next summer.
