For several months it has been said that F1 could have races with an inverted grid, with the aim of having more open competitions. However, the new president and CEO of the highest category, Stefano Domenicali, has ruled out this option. However, he left open the possibility of having a short race on Saturday.
In dialogue with the media, the Italian manager said: “The idea of the grid doesn’t work, that’s something I can tell you. I think it is important to think perhaps of new ideas that will make it more attractive or interesting, but we do not have to lose the traditional approach to racing.
I think that what we learned in the period where we change the classification every two days, has been something that has crushed our fingers. For this reason we need to avoid that. Now I consider the formula to be very stable.
What we are seeing, without a doubt, is what could be the focus of the so-called ‘sprint race’ on Saturday. We are wondering if this could be tested this year. There are conversations with the teams, in the right forum. And I think maybe this could be the only thing that could be interesting, “Domenicali said.
The manager also announced that young talents will have greater visibility: “We need to pay attention once again to the newbies, the true newbies.
