F1 leaves champagne to make way for wine on the podium | Football24 News English

In a deal announced Tuesday, Formula 1 revealed that Ferrari Trento It is named the official Sparkling Wine of the highest category for at least the next three years.

The bottles of the Italian company will appear on the podium after each race and their products will be available at the F1 Paddock Club and other official events.

It is not the first time that Ferrari Trento wine has appeared on the podium, as it was used at the Italian Grand Prix ceremony in the past.

Simone Mase, General Manager of the Lunelli Group, stated: “In 1980 we were on the podium of the Grand Prix at Monza [nota del editor, en realidad fue en Imola], so we have very nice photos from then, with great champions. They have already tasted Ferrari wine, and now we are partners in Formula 1 and I am looking forward to our first meeting. “

While champagne has traditionally been used at the F1 podium ceremony, that has changed at times in history.

After several decades using Moet and Mumm champagne after racing, sparkling wine producer Chandon has been on the F1 podium since early 2016.

However, midway through the 2017 season, the category announced an official partnership with champagne producer Carbon.

The CEO of F1, Stefano Domenicali, said he had no qualms about breaking with tradition and switching to sparkling wine instead of champagne.

When asked why F1 had decided on the change, he replied: “The answer is very simple: it is because of the quality of the product and the quality of the company. That is why we have agreed to join.”

Domenicali hopes that the agreement with Ferrari Trento can open the doors for the sport to also try something different regarding podium ceremonies in the future.

Recently, F1 has experimented with using GoPro cameras on champagne bottles to try and offer a unique view of the awards ceremony and celebration.

“I want to make sure that with Ferrari Trento, which is such an exceptional Italian product, the podium celebration was somehow different,” he admitted.

Since alcohol is banned from the podium of Middle Eastern races (such as the one in Bahrain that opens the world championship), the first podium that will feature Ferrari Trento wine will be at the Emilia-Romagna GP in Imola, in April.
