The goalkeeper Rodrigo Rey became the first new face of Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata this afternoon, before the next tournament of the Professional Soccer League Cup, the club “Mensana” announced today.
Rey, born in Las Parejas, Santa Fe province 29 years ago, was trained in the lower ranks of River Plate, loaned to Newell’s Old Boys in 2013, and in 2014 Godoy Cruz de Mendoza arrived, from where he was transferred to Greek football.
This afternoon, Rey completed the medical check-up in La Plata and signed his contract for two years, after achieving his departure from PAOK in Greece, his last institution, and is at the disposal of coach Mariano Messera.
Rey arrives to replace Jorge Broun, who terminated the link with Gimnasia to return to Rosario Central, the club where he started, in exchange for compensation of about $ 200,000 for the remaining contract year.
A similar situation happens with Paolo Goltz, who is determined to continue his career in Colón de Santa Fe and with whom they would have agreed to disengage for a similar sum, although his possible replacement in the team’s spine is not yet known.
On the other hand, Gimnasia, which will debut next Sunday at 7:20 p.m. against Boca Junios in the Bombonera for the Professional League Cup, will use the clothing of the French company with which it ended its relationship last December, due to a delay in the delivery of the new Romai signature, delayed in the current context of the coronavirus pandemic.
