The power unit comprises the electric motors, the management system, the batteries and the gearbox. On the contrary, the fuel cell, which will produce the electricity necessary to power the engine from hydrogen, will be free for each manufacturer because the objective of the category is to advance in fuel cell technology, as well as the elements associated with her: refrigeration, control hardware and software and compressors.
Green GT has been working on this technology since 2014 and he was supposed to participate with his own fuel cell car in 2015, but they could not arrive on time. However, he has not stopped working to evolve the car and the ACO has been in charge of keeping the project alive.
Now, the ACO is partnering Green GT, Red Bull, Oreca and Plastic Omnium to make the Mission 24H, the fuel cell car that this year will start racing in the Michelin Cup to prepare for its participation in the 24 Hours of 2022 or 2023. It will be the starting gun for the new category.
“With this announcement, we specified a little more the future of the Hydrogen category. The choice of Green GT was evident, after we had been working together for several years and accumulating considerable experience with the Mission 24H program”, said Pierre Fillon, president of the ACO.
“This is something that all participating teams will benefit from. The roadmap is being specified and the ACO certifies its willingness to be an actor in sustainable mobility”, added Fillon to close.
