The pilot confirms that, even after so many years, he still smiles when he takes to the track
The happiness that comes from winning a race has been increasing over the years
Lewis Hamilton still does not have a contract with Mercedes for 2021. Toto Wolff, head of the German team, has confessed that both the team and the driver have different points of view. But Wolff is not alarmed, since he believes that in negotiations these comings and goings are normal.
The British driver should have renewed before starting the pre-season tests – March 12-14 – in Bahrain, as the German team boss recently pointed out. But what Hamilton implies is that he intends to continue competing in Formula 1 because he says that is what makes him happy.
“We are in a very competitive world, but when I get in the car, under the visor and the team prepares the car to leave the garage, I have the biggest smile. Even today, after all these years of racing” , Hamilton has highlighted in the podcast ‘Formula for Success’.
The Briton adds that the day that Formula 1 stops making him happy, he will know that it is time to step aside and try something different: “If the day comes when that stops happening, that he no longer has that smile, I know that I will have finished and I will have to do something different “, has recognized the British pilot.
But, from his words, it does not seem that he is planning to retire at the moment. Hamilton admits that he has always hated losing and that over the years winning brings him more and more satisfaction.
“I think I’ve always been a person who hates to lose, but somehow – I can’t explain how – I’ve managed to be on the other side. I love reaching the finish line at the end of a race in first place; happiness that lasts even longer than it used to, “revealed the seven-time champion.
Still, it doesn’t make him ugly to try different hobbies once his premier class career has come to an end. In fact, he already practices other hobbies such as his collaboration with the clothing brand Tommy Hilfiger or his team at Extreme E. In addition to his dedication to activist causes such as the fight against racism or his commitment to the environment.
“The fact that you are good at doing something or that you are successful doing it does not mean that you cannot try something different. So I try to find other things that I am passionate about,” he concluded.
