The former star of the national basketball team, Hugo Cabrera, is currently in New York seeking a second opinion regarding the treatment of pancreatic cancer that has affected him for several months.
Cabrera is scheduled for a consultation appointment in the division of oncology of the Irving Medical Center of Columbia University, a unit of the Presbyteranian Hospital of New York, considered among the highest valued medical facilities in the United States health system.
Originally, Cabrera was recommended an integrative cancer treatment by Dr. Marcelo Lam, medical director of the TCM Physicians Clinic in Miami, Florida, after repeated chemotherapy sessions did not give the expected optimal results.
The information, authorized by Cabrera, was offered by Eduardo Gómez, also a former national basketball star, to journalist Roosevelt Comarazamy, to be disseminated to the Dominican media.
Hugo took the opportunity to thank the First Lady, Mrs. Raquel Arbaje, for the commitment and interest shown in his case, who has been pending its development and expressed the willingness of the government of President Luis Abinader to contribute with the expenses in pursuit of the recovery of the brilliant athlete.
It was also reported that a bank account opened for private donations has been closed at the will of the member of the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame.
Other official institutions that have offered to collaborate with Cabrera are the Ministry of Sports, the Administrative Office of the Presidency, the Reserve Bank and the Consulate of the Dominican Republic in New York.
