With their win over the Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV, Tom Brady’s legacy ranks him as the strongest candidate for the popular title of “The best of all time.” Even one of the best receivers in history has postulated it.
In interview for ProFootballTalk, Jerry Rice assured that Brady can be considered as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) dDue to his seven champion rings, he added that that qualification does not make him feel comfortable. “
“When you have seven titles it is because you are doing something right,” explained the former receiver. “TOyes he can have the status of the best of all time. Anyway, I never wanted that name. “
Rice’s words give Brady’s career even more validity when considering that the former catcher holds the regular season records of more touchdown receptions (197), more receptions (1,549), more yards per catch (22,895), more seasons with 50 or more receptions (17), more consecutive games with TD catches (13), and more seasons with more than 1,000 yards (14). In the Super Bowl alone, he registered a total of 48 points, 33 receptions, eight touchdowns and 589 yards, all league records.
Counterarguments
Despite ranking him as one of the best players in NFL history, Rice noted that player protection measures allow athletes to extend their careers longer. Notably, the Mississippi Valley State product played 21 seasons in the league.
“I don’t have seven Super Bowl rings, but I think I played in an era when soccer was a more contact sport,” he elaborated. “I think Brady wants to keep playing. He said something about playing until age 45. I think he can do it in this league because the players are more protected“.
