Lionel Messi, named footballer of the decade – International Football – Sports | Football24 News English

Messi continues to make history thanks to his impressive soccer performance. The talent of the Argentine player now makes him worthy of the first place in the list of 20 best players of the decade (2011-2021) published by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS for its acronym in English).

The IFFHS is a private organization whose objective is the chronological documentation of the results of the world football, data and information related to this sport.

Their rankings are known throughout the world and the most recent one has given us something to talk about, especially by the footballers who make up the ranking of the best players of the decade.

Lionel Messi, who last year was nominated for the FIFA at The Best, it ranks first. Spanish follows Andres Iniesta and later Luka Modric. In fourth and fifth place they are located Kevin De Bruyne Y Toni Kroos, respectively.

To the surprise of many, the name of Cristiano Ronaldo appears up to 12 position and two places below, that is, in 15, it is James Rodriguez. He is the only Colombian who appears among the chosen ones.

To choose the players, the IFFHS explained that it devised a “fair” method. According to the statement that appears on their official website, they took into consideration “the top 20 of each annual ranking of each category in question” and assigned points to each place.

According to the explanation, the first classified received 20 points, the second 19 points, the third 18 points and so on. “If the annual classification is less than 20, no point will be awarded for the vacant places,” they clarified.

The sum of the points of the individual years provides a world ranking for the period 2011-2020.

Regarding the first position awarded to the Argentine player, affirmed that “their dominance during all these last 10 years was sovereign, gaining four Ballon d’Or between 2011 and 2020, six titles of The League, five King’s Cups, four Spain Supercup, From UEFA Champions Leagues, From UEFA Super Cups, From FIFA Club World Cups with FC Barcelona “.

They also assured that it was “natural” that Messi obtained this recognition since he had been the winner of the annual award in “2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019, also second in 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2020”.
