Luis Mari Sautu has been elected as the new president of the Basque Basketball Federation after winning Germán Monge in the elections held this Thursday, who was running for re-election after holding office from 2017 to the present.
His presence in these elections was due, in his own words, to the “dissatisfaction” of a large part of Basque basketball with the outgoing administration, both “in sports management and in economic management.”
The Extraordinary General Assembly has begun, in its first call at 7:00 p.m., with the presence of 49 assembly members of the possible 50.
Each candidate has had 10 minutes to explain their project to the General Assembly.
Once the speeches are finished, the time has come for the vote, which has been carried out by estates. The vote count of 35 votes for Luis María Sautu and 14 for the now outgoing president, Germán Monge.
As announced by the Basque Federation on the 10th “the final proclamation of the new president will be carried out.”
Sautu, 53, has a PhD in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, a Senior Basketball coach and was also president of the Alava Federation between 2008 and 2016.
The new president of La Vasca was also Saski Baskonia’s second coach in Herb Brown’s stage in the Gasteiz team at the beginning of the 90s. Today he works as a councilor for the Popular Party in the Zuia City Council.
