Everything indicates that Angels They were paying attention to the winter ball season, especially the Caribbean Series 2021 in Mazatlán, Mexico, then, just one day after the tournament ended, they signed a minor league agreement to the outfielder Juan Lagares, who was named MVP of the Caribbean joust.
Lagares came on after the 2021 Final Series against the Gigantes del Cibao, a team to which he hit three home runs in the last three games, one of them with the bases loaded, which served to be named the MVP of the title commitment.
Having helped the Aguilas Cibaeñas to get to the Caribbean Series, Lagares continued on when hitting two more home runs in the first two games of the Caribbean tournament, the first served to crown a day of five RBIs with which Dominican Republic beat Puerto Rico on the first day of the tournament.
The press chose the center fielder as the Most valuable Player after finishing his participation hitting .316 and leading the championship in home runs with two, RBIs with 8 in addition to being the player of RD with the best slugging (.684) and total bases achieved (13) for Quisqueya’s team.

Juan Lagares will have a good chance to show his talent in Spring Training with a view to making the roster for the next Major League season, as prospects Jo Adell and Brandon Marsh will start the season in the minor leagues, a situation that leaves him behind Taylor Ward as the only replacement outfielder on the 40-man roster behind starters Justin Upton, Mike Trout and Dexter Fowler.
Lagares has seen action in parts of eight seasons in the majors, all as a player of the Mets. After being the team’s center fielder from 2013 to 2015, Lagares he’s seen less and less action and his batting dropped to .213 in 2019. Last season he signed with the Padres, but chose to return to free agency after failing to make the roster after Spring Training; then he returned to the Mets where he appeared in two games on defense but did not hit.
