Amazon expands its relationship with sports. The American e-commerce giant has acquired its first audiovisual rights to a sporting event in Australia.

The exclusive agreement with Swimming Australia for two years will allow Amazon to broadcast several Australian swimming championships worldwide through Prime Video, according to SportBusiness.

Since terminating the contract with Seven after missing the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Australian federation has been seeking an agreement for his rights.

The first event to be broadcast on Prime Video will be the Australian Swimming Trials, which will take place June 12-17 at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Center in Oaklands Park, near Adelaide. Also, until this event, Swimming Australia will hold the qualifying events for the Games on its SwimTV OTT platform.

“The launch of live sports broadcasting on Prime Video in Australia is a natural progression for us, we are proud to partner with Swimming Australia to bring the iconic sport to Prime Video customers,” said Hushidar Kharas, Head of Prime Video Australia.

Amazon yesterday reached an agreement with the Rafa Nadal Academy in Spain and a few days ago presented an offer for the rights of Ligue 1, although it did not do so for those of Serie A. The company is seeking agreements with the Big Four in football although it wants keep growing in rugby, basketball and motorsport.
