The Mexican avocado became the star of the Super Bowl for this reason | Football24 News English

The avocado is once again present in the Super Bowl. According to data from the Association of Producers, Packers and Exporters of Avocado of Mexico (APEAM), it is expected that the export of the product to U.S be a record figure with an estimated increase of 4% compared to the previous year, in which 120 thousand tons were shipped.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the avocado shipment has not stopped during 2020 and early 2021, so the workers have worked since 7 in the morning, when the cutting of the orchard begins, so that half of the fruit is in the packing process to later begin its trip to the United States.

According to the Mexican Avocado Group (GAMEX), in the second week of January the record in avocado shipments to the United States was broken and they went from sending 32 thousand tons to 35 thousand tons. However, at the moment there is great uncertainty because sales have not increased.

Michoacn is the only state in Mexico certified to export avocado and sends more than 84% of its production to the neighboring country, being the main producer of ‘green gold’, with more than 2,184,000 tons per year, according to information from ‘ The Economist’. Avocado that is not exported stays in the country, which also represents a great opportunity.

Thus, while the Kansas City Chiefs will defend their title against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, at Raymond James Stadium, on February 7, the Mexican avocado will once again be the star in the fans’ plates.
