Home Sotheby’s announced this Monday that it will offer for $ 25,000 some sneakers designed by Nike for former US president Barack Obama, some examples of the Hyperdunk model of which only two pairs were made.
In honor of the 44th U.S. president, Sotheby’s will release the footwear on February 12, when it begins the long weekend that culminates with the President’s Day, a festive day in the US, although before that date the sports shoes can be seen in the company’s galleries in Manhattan.
Created in 2009 in a size 12.5 (US size), they are the only extra pair of shoes of this model that Nike has produced, and they have been kept in very good condition for the last 12 years.
For the first time, Sotheby’s will not auction the product, and will sell it at a fixed price, Photo Sotheby’s.
The other identical pair has been kept in his closet by the 44th president of the United States, since it was given to him in 2009. The shoes celebrate the Obama presidency and have been kept in perfect condition, just like the day they were manufactured, 12 years ago. .
“They have incredible details, including the seal of the president of the United States, the number 44 embroidered on each of the shoes, and the number 1776 engraved on the soles,” the year the country achieved Independence, he explained. Sotheby’s director of e-commerce development Brahm Wachter in a statement.
It is the first major piece that Sotheby’s sells on a new platform it has launched, “Buy Now”where different luxury and collector items can be instantly purchased at a specified price, without the need to bid.

The custom sneaker model reflects Obama’s passion for basketball, and is the same as the model created for the American national basketball team that attended the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Obama and Nike have collaborated in different ways over the years, and in 2020 the sports brand donated 5 million dollars to the Obama Foundation for the creation of public spaces to promote physical activity at the headquarters of this institution, which will begin to be built in South Chicago this summer.
