While the different sports are looking for the best alternatives to be able to maintain competition during the coronavirus pandemic, a successful case is presented as a model in Argentina: the Argentina Volleyball League He played 21 games in nine days and had no infections. On the horizon, a new competition is coming in Mar del Plata.
The organizers’ idea was based on the NBA’s experience at Disney. In this case, it was at Club Atlético Paracao de Paraná for the first phase of the tournament, a free-for-all that left UPCN at the top and undefeated.
The Olé newspaper made a report on the subject and spoke with several of the protagonists. For example, Joaquín Alzueta, central from Paracao and member of the National Team in the 2019 Bahrain Youth World Cup, said: “It reminded me of the theme that they told us: ‘at that time you get up, eat, we take you to the court, You train, you come back, you have lunch, you rest, you play and you go back to sleep. ‘
The strictness of the protocols, the mandatory use of a mask, constant hand washing and disinfection, the impossibility of crossing with other hotel guests, restricted areas and others left a more than favorable balance for the League, which until now counts only three infections, all prior to the start of the competition: Bautista Gazaba, Joaquín Aquindo and Tomás Russo, from Once Unidos.
The second volleyball bubble will be in Mar del Plata
The Association of Argentine League Volleyball Clubs (ACLAV) announced that the second bubble of the regular phase of the tournament will take place in Mar del Plata, between February 18 and 26.
The date and location were forwarded to national and regional authorities for final approval, within the framework of the evaluation of the corresponding health protocols. These protocols were already applied successfully in La Feliz in the Argentine Volleyball Cup that was played in December 2020 with the same format, on the Once Unidos court.
In the second bubble of Mar del Plata, the qualifying round will be completed with 21 games, in a free-for-all format, which will define the positions of the regular phase.
