Due to the anomalous situations that Formula 1 is going through since last season, the top leaders of the category proposed to experiment with different formats for the Grand Prix, one of them was the two-day weekend, something that seems that finally it has been totally discarded.
Does not meet the requirements
In search of improving the show and increasing the excitement of the Grand Prix for the future, Formula 1 is testing the odd experiment, since right now and due to the conditions of the pandemic it seems that we are facing the most ideal time to carry out these tests.
Last season they were tested on two-day weekends, while this year the free practice sessions on Friday have been reduced by half an hour and, later on, a new format will also be experimented with that will include sprint races on Saturdays.
After the two-day weekend test during the 2020 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, most teams and drivers were really satisfied with the results, as it considerably reduced costs and workload, something very important in increasingly long calendars.
Despite this, Stefano Domenicali has recognized that it is not the format that the highest category of motorsports seeks, since it also has its disadvantages by reducing the days of action on the track: “All organizers want to have a complete experience for their fans, so we must respect that.“.
