Granada will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the artist’s birth Mariano Fortuny and Madrazo through activities proposed by different educational and cultural institutions of the city, and to which the delegation of Education and Sports of the Board joins with a story contest aimed at ESO students from all educational centers in the province. It consists of writing and illustrating an original story about his life.

The contest is organized in two phases. In the first, students will be able to submit, from February 4 to March 5, a original and unpublished story, written in a traditional way, which will be selected and will go on to the second phase. In this, the winning story will be illustrated and, later, it will be layout and published as didactic material by the Territorial Delegation of Education and Sports. The winners of the first phase will receive as a prize a e-book or electronic book, while those of the second will be graced with a graphic tablet. The awards ceremony will take place, if circumstances permit, in a ceremony during the cultural week of the day of the book (date to be specified, between April 19 and 23).

For the delegate of Education and Sports, Ana Berrocal, this initiative is a “magnificent opportunity to bring the figure of this great nineteenth-century creator closer to our students and foster literary skills in them through an experience in which expressive and comprehensive skills, intercultural knowledge, and the attitudes of the cognitive, linguistic and emotional domain ”.

The contest objectives They are varied. On the one hand, to bring the figure of the Granada-born genius Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo closer to the schoolchildren of the educational centers of the province, as well as delving into the different fields in which Mariano Fortuny stood out throughout his life as fashion design, lighting , scenography, painting, engraving and photography.

It also seeks to recognize, identify and respect the structure and characteristics of the story, following the script proposed by the organization to highlight different facets of the life of Fortuny and Madrazo, awaken interest in the creation of stories using the imagination, thus achieving the development of argumentative and descriptive competences that improve the concern for the creation of these texts and strengthen the reading habit.

Another of the main tasks is to become aware of the story as an excellent resource to instill the love of reading from the early years and recognize the social and cultural function of the story and identify the components of its narrative structure, producing a simple literary text with a logical structure and sequence, making appropriate use of language.
