The legend of Tom Brady got even bigger when he guided Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the title of Super Bowl LV. At 43, already with the undisputed label of best player in NFL history, in his first year with the new team he achieved what no one imagined at the beginning of the season. In the grand finale defeated defending champion Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 and put on hold the pass of the testimony to Patrick Mahomes, the fantastic rival quarterback called to be his successor.
In the end the defense of the Bucs prevailed, thus reaching the Vince Lombardi trophy for the second time in history, after the success of 2003, remembered for having the Argentine kicker Martín Gramatica as the protagonist. Brady excelled with 201 yards, three touchdown passes, no interception and a driving clinic. Well deserved, he had the MVP award; for the fifth time he received the trophy for the most valuable player of the Super Bowl.
For Brady it was his seventh title (Those who follow him have four), the first after leaving the New England Patriots at the end of last season, a team he led into a dynasty. This year, without Brady, he didn’t even make the playoffs. Bruce Arians, in charge of Tampa Bay, added another achievement: he became the oldest coach to win the Super Bowl, aged 68 and 127 days.

For the first time a team was local in a Super Bowl. Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay had been designated as the venue in 2017. The Bucs, however, had not made the playoffs since 2007.. And yet the arrival of Brady raised expectations, which were fueled throughout the season. With the best quarterback of all time came his former teammates in the New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski (tight end), who returned from a two-year retirement, and the controversial receiver Antonio Brown, who had an eight-game suspension, in addition to the running back. Leonard Fournette, who arrived as a free agent.

Kansas City was the favorite, for being the defending champion, having the best record of the regular season and for having the best most decisive player of the last three years, the young Mahomes (26 years old), leader of a fearsome offense. Hard to bet against Brady, though. The veteran found new life in Tampa Bay, a team with great defense and attacking weapons that he didn’t have in New England.

Tampa Bay dominated on defense, knocking out Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, and taking advantage of mistakes by Kansas City defensemen, who exceeded infractions and gave opportunities to Tom Brady. The legend made them pay by combining with his former New England teammates Gronkowski (two touchdowns) and Brown (one), and thus he went to the long break with a 21-6 lead.

Paradoxically, the party was half-baked, since the stadium with a capacity for 65,850 spectators had only 25,000 enabled seats. Of the attendees, 7,500 were healthcare workers who came from across the country, invited by the NFL with all expenses paid. Still, the noisy Tampa Bay fans made their voices heard and colored the stands with their pirate costumes.
The struggles against the coronavirus, racial profiling and inequalities also marked the entire show that is as constitutive of the Super Bowl as the game itself. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden suddenly appeared on the giant screens at Raymond James Stadium, highlighting the work of healthcare workers. HER sang America the Beautiful and then country musician Eric Church and black R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan gave a rather distinctive rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner; two very dissimilar personalities and styles that combined to represent unity. A trio of B-1, B-2 and B-52 bombers crowned the anthem with a roar.

Even the commercials, also a great focus of attention in the North American culture of the Super Bowl, were marked by the pandemic with life stories and messages that urged the population to take care of themselves.
Another very emotional moment came when 22-year-old black poet Amanda Gorman recited a poem in which she honored three people for their work on the pandemic. One of those named, Suzie Dorner, a nurse at Tampa General Hospital, was in charge of tossing the coin for the draw.
The halftime was in charge of The Weekend and a long collection of hits. According to reports, he would have put 7 million dollars out of his pocket for the impressive set.
