Vitoria, Feb 9 (EFE) .- The Basque Government has dismissed this Tuesday Ibon Etxeberria, one of the Executive’s advisers on coronavirus, who bypassed the municipal confinement to go play sports at a golf club.
This was announced at a press conference after the Governing Council by the Minister of Health, Gotzone Sagardui, who stated that in today’s meeting they analyzed what happened and remarked that the decree that seeks to limit mobility was not intended to authorize this type of case.
Etxeberria bypassed current mobility restrictions to travel from Bilbao to the Biscayan municipality of Mungia, about 18 kilometers away, to play sports, according to El Correo today.
Both localities have limited exits and entrances since they maintain the perimeter closure because they are in a “red zone” as they have a contagion rate of more than 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, as decided by the advisory council of the Basque civil protection plan ( LABI for its acronym in Basque), of which until now this dismissed technician has been a part.
This advisory council also agreed to prevent mobility between all Basque municipalities, not just those in the red, to limit the spread of the virus.
For all this, the counselor has assured that Etxeberría has been dismissed, who in addition to being an advisor at LABI is director of the Legal, Economic and General Services Regime of the Department of Health. EFE
