It debuted at the beginning of 2019. It is the Pininfarina Battista, the first model of the legendary design firm as a manufacturer that has since had brief appearances here and there as on this occasion.
Indeed, a few days ago, former Formula 1 driver and Pininfarina tester Nick Heidfeld carried out several tests at the Nardo Technical Center in Italy.
More than 1,000 CV
Heidfeld has played a key role in the development of the Battista since the project’s inception. In fact already in 2019 he joined the designers and engineers of Automobili Pininfarina to provide his feed back ergonomics on a physical prototype, rather than a virtual one, for the first time.
Shortly after, Nick was in the seat of an advanced dynamic simulator in Italy, in order to perform a report to support the dynamic setup of the 1,900 hp electric four-wheel drive hypercar. The goal is for the sports car to start production in Italy this summer.
The objective of the last -so far- test has been to refine the Battista’s medium chassis and the calibration of the software.
The pilot himself has commented that “It was very special to drive the Battista on the track for the first time. With the prototype in an advanced stage of development, we are testing the car with about 80% of its power and already the performance and acceleration is beyond anything you could imagine. “
First impressions
“What really surprised me -adds Heidfeld- it was how natural Battista felt on the track. We are creating a hyper GT to be enjoyed at all speeds, however here at Nardo the cornering control and speed we achieved were exceptional. Traction control and torque vectoring are active at this stage of prototype development, but there is a lot of potential. It was my first time driving on the Nardo circuit, so I spent some time watching movies about the circuit to familiarize myself with the layout. I quickly realized that they would be of little use, because the acceleration of the Battista is on another level even compared to the fastest road cars in the world. “
Eros Maggi
Two combinations of tires based on the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R mounted on lightweight Impulse rims were used for this test. “This combination provides an exceptional combination of maximum grip and feel, perfect for a race track.”notes Heidfeld.
The Battista is the most powerful road-approved car ever designed and built in Italy. Pininfarina has already confirmed that will not manufacture more than 150 units, all handcrafted at the facilities in Turin, Italy, with the first cars to be delivered to customers later this year.
