The triple world champion, Peter Sagan, is one of the three Bora-Hansgrohe cyclists who tested positive for covid-19, as confirmed by the German team on Saturday. Christopher Edler, the team’s chief physician, acknowledged that Sagan, his brother Juraj and Erik Baska had tested positive several times through independent PCR tests. All three show symptoms, but very mild and at this time they remain in the domestic quarantine
“All three show mild and general symptoms of illness and at this time they can remain in home quarantine according to state guidelines until they recover,” Edler said. “There is still close communication with the medical team. Once the quarantine is complete, more comprehensive medical evaluations are planned. ” All three Slovaks tested positive at a training camp in Gran Canaria.
Peter Sagan, 31, wanted to explain how everything had happened: “For a few weeks, my brother Juraj, our teammate Erik Baska and I have been training in Gran Canaria. On January 29 we did a PCR test at a local lab so we could fly back home. Unfortunately, the results were not what we expected and all three of us tested positive for covid-19. We all feel good but, obviously, since that day, we have been in quarantine. “
On the part of his team they have not wanted to set deadlines for the resumption of pre-season training. Team Principal Ralph Denk said, “It is not yet known exactly what this may mean for the start of the season. First, all three need to be completely healthy again and receive medical clearance, and then we can consider what the next steps will be. ” –
