MADRID – Sergio Ramos will have an operation on the meniscus in his left knee this weekend, as confirmed by ESPN. The white captain has made the decision on the recommendation of Real Madrid’s medical services and will be out for a minimum of six weeks.
Ramos was injured earlier in the season and has been dragging the problem ever since. He could no longer play the Spanish Super Cup match against Athletic Club, nor the Copa del Rey match against Alcoyano in which Madrid was eliminated against a Second B team.

Ramos, according to ESPN, has always wanted to avoid the operating room, but the club’s medical services have recommended that he stop and recover as soon as possible.

The withdrawal period is estimated at a minimum of six weeks, depending on the recovery periods. Therefore, Ramos would miss the tie against Atalanta and the league matches against Huesca, Getafe, Valencia, Valladolid, Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid, with the doubt of being able to reach the matches against Elche and Celta Vigo on time.
The injury comes at the most unexpected moment as he is immersed in full contract renewal. ESPN reported months ago that the defender’s intention is to renew for Real Madrid, with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City very attentive to Ramos’ future. There is still no decision made about his future, but it is clear that the injury does not help to clarify the doubts about where the Real Madrid captain will play next season.
