The Criollos of Puerto Rico achieved their second victory in the 2021 Caribbean Series with scoreboard 6-4 on the hosts Tomateros de México, at the Teodoro Mariscal stadium in Mazatlán.
The Puerto Ricans were placed at the gates of qualifying for the second round last night and they occupy second place in the tournament with a 2-1 record, along with the Chiriquí Federals, representatives of Panama.
Shortstop Edwin Díaz scored three of the six races of the Criollos and he hit two with a home run in the second inning. Meanwhile, the veteran pitcher Héctor Santiago took the win with 6.1 innings in which it gave way to four races and seven unknowns.

The relay looked impressive again, with great management by Anthony Maldonado, Rayan González and Fernando Cruz, who scored his second save.
The Puerto Rican team took the lead in the fifth inning, when, with the score level two laps away, Jarren Durán hit a triple that drove the lead run off Diaz’s legs. Then, Machín’s single brought the fourth touchdown and Reymond Fuentes’ sacrifice fly produced the fifth line, scored by Yadier Molina.
In the seventh inning, the Tomateros tightened the game with two touchdowns, a double by Jesús Fabela and a single by Sebastián Elizalde.
Puerto Rico was the first to score in the second inning, with home run Diaz with a runner on base. In that same episode, Mexico reacted and got two laps to level the shock.
The Criollos will have their fourth commitment today, Wednesday, in front of the Barranquilla Caimans, representatives of Colombia. The game is scheduled for 6:00 pm (Puerto Rico time) and will be broadcast live on WAPA Deportes.
