The hotel business will be closed in the 24 municipalities of Bizkaia in the red zone due to coronavirus: Abadiño, Arrigorriaga, Balmaseda, Barakaldo, Basauri, Berango, Bermeo, Bilbao, Derio, Durango, Erandio, Galdakao, Gernika-Lumo, Getxo, Gorliz, Güeñes, Leioa, Markina-Xemein, Mungia, Muskiz, Ortuella, Portugalete, Santurtzi and Sopela. Amorebieta, Trapagaran and Zalla they will be able to reopen the hospitality businesses after moving to the orange zone with accumulated incidence rates below 500.

In the whole of the Basque Country, the closure of the hotel industry affects a total of 46 large municipalities. In the three capitals, Bilbao, Donostia and Gasteiz, the bars will remain closed for the moment. Bilbao was the first to enter the red zone and the hospitality industry closed on January 22 with a rate of 562.5, which now stands at 751.5.

In addition, bars and restaurants will not be able to open in the following Biscayan towns with less than 5,000 inhabitants: Alonsotegi, Etxebarria, Galdames, Gamiz-Fika, Gatika, Iruraiz-Gauna, Iurreta, Laukiz, Lemoiz, Lezama, Loiu, Plentzia and Sondika.

EVOLUTION OF THE PANDEMIC IN BIZKAIA

Bizkaia reported 371 cases of coronavirus out of the 621 registered in the whole of the Basque Country this Monday. While waiting for the TSJPV to decide this Tuesday on the appeal filed by the Basque hoteliers on the closure of bars and restaurants, the Directorate of Public Health and Addictions of the Basque Government has communicated this Monday the list of municipalities in which the opening of bars and restaurants is prohibited. This resolution will take effect as of Tuesday, February 9.

Since January 25, it only affects hotels and sports because all the towns in the Basque Country are closed on the perimeter. It is only allowed to leave the municipality of residence in exceptions such as fulfilling work or legal obligations, attending class and health centers, caring for the elderly, minors or dependents and other causes of force majeure.
