Borussia Dormund, Sevilla’s rival in the Champions League round of 16, went back to their old ways and suffered another defeat in the Bundesliga this Saturday, this time at the home of Freiburg, against whom they had not lost since 2010 (2-1). In a match in which the great Dortmund star, Erling Haaland, touched few balls until the last quarter, Freiburg decided the game in two isolated plays to which Edin Terzic’s team did not have enough reaction, which was aggravated his crisis and is 6th.
Freiburg played a good game, putting pressure on Dortmund in the first half. Those at Signal Iduna Park, usually such an offensive team, had trouble creating dangerous chances. All in all, Dortmund could have scored on a shot from Emre Can, this Saturday playing as a right-back, which crashed off the crossbar.
After the break, Freiburg was lethal. In the 49th minute Woo-Yeong Jeong scored, a good goal, with a shot from outside the area after an assist from Vincenzo. And in minute 52 ‘the second goal came, also from outside, in this case from the top of the area, the work of Jonathan Schmid. In this second ‘target’ there was a mistake by Marwin Hitz, Terzic’s starting goalkeeper in the absence of Toman Bürki.
Borussia Dortmund tried to get back into the game, getting closer to Florian Müller’s goal as they hadn’t before. And at least he managed to close the gap, in a Haaland boarding school, whose pass Youssoufa Moukoko took advantage of in the 76th minute to give his team at least hope. Before, Moukoko himself had crashed a ball into the wood.
But the reaction did not reach Borussia Dortmund, although in 90 ‘Haaland was about to score but the ball did not fall well. Freiburg is 8th and Dortmund 6th, 3 points behind the Champions League area and 16 points behind the leader Bayern.
