The Secretary of Health in Tamaulipas confirmed a second case of British variant Covid-19, it is a 70-year-old woman from Tampico, who was infected after spending the holidays with her family, in Acapulco, Guerrero.

Similarly, the Ministry of Health confirmed that three relatives of the patient, – 50, 48 and 18 years old and residing in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León -, tested positive for the new variant of coronavirus.

In this regard, Gloria de Jesús Molina Gamboa, head of the Ministry of Health in the entity, specified that the outbreak began when the patient and her husband, who recently died of Covid-19, met their daughter’s family in Acapulco on December 31, 2020 and they began to develop symptoms between January 4 and 5, returning to their places of residence on January 9.

The patient requested a Covid-19 test in a private laboratory in Tampico on January 13, immediately notifying state and federal health authorities through the Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference Institute (INDRE), after finding suspicion of a genetic abnormality during the process.

Molina Gamboa explained that, after the notification, epidemiological containment actions were activated to follow up on the people who were in contact with them, without new cases having been confirmed so far.

As part of the protocol, the family members were investigated and it was established that it was the daughter of the patient, a 48-year-old woman living in Monterrey, who had contact with an international traveler, apparently his comadre, on December 30, who arrived from England.

Reported that the 70 year old patient meets pneumonia, without requiring hospitalization and with treatment at his home in the city of Tampico.

In the same way, he announced that the rest of the positive patients for the British variant are asymptomatic and have already finished their quarantine.
