Despite the fact that Deportes Limache and Rodelindo Román had already secured their ticket to professionalism, today they had to face each other to define the monarch of the Third Division A. In that sense, the crown went to the tomato team, who won the penalty shootout 5-3 after a 0-0 in regular time.
In the last minutes, Limache was very close to winning the duel played in Quillota. The clearest option was starred by Dante Bustamante, but goalkeeper Matías Burgos responded in a great way, like in front of a Carlos Vásquez free kick. That was how everything had to be resolved from the twelve steps.
In such an instance, the only one who failed was Roberto Romero, who made Marco González shine. That situation allowed Vásquez, 10, to stand in front of the ball on the last shot, score and reach the title.
It is worth mentioning that in the coming season, both Limache and Rodelindo, Arturo Vidal’s team, will make their debut in professional football. In this way, one of Rey’s great wishes is fulfilled.
“Happy for this great achievement. First I thank the players, coaching staff and all the club’s collaborators for helping to fulfill the dream of many. Infinite thanks to all,” Vidal had said after his cast acquired a place in the Second Division after winning against Municipal Santiago.
