At the beginning of January, Matias Succar was officially announced as a new reinforcement of the LASK from Austria. The 21-year-old forward thus embarked on his first adventure outside our borders. His great performances with the jersey of Municipal Sports, scoring 11 goals in 26 presentations, were enough for the Austrian team to bet on the Peruvian footballer.
Three weeks after his arrival in the Old Continent, Depose spoke with Dominik Thalhammer, LASK DT. The 50-year-old strategist told how Succar’s adaptation process is going, highlighted his soccer virtues and revealed to which team he will be sent to win filming.
How do you think Matías Succar’s adaptation in LASK has been?
It has been as we expected, it is a challenge for Matías to adapt to our style of football, since it is very different from what he was used to at Deportivo Municipal. Not only our high pressure way of playing, but also the very high intensity in our training sessions is something new for him. That is why it is very important that we give him the time to adjust and get used to all these new things. But he is very eager to learn and is taking good first steps in this adaptation process.
What stands out the most about the former Deportivo Municipal striker?
Your dedication and professional attitude are very good! He has a clear goal in mind: he wants to develop at LASK and take the next big step in his career. He certainly also has the right instinct for a striker: he knows where to position himself on the field to score goals. He already showed that in the preseason game against Lafnitz, where he scored a goal.
Why has the Peruvian striker not been called up in recent Bundesliga dates?
It made sense to give Matías the opportunity to show his qualities in the preseason games, that’s why he was on the squad list. At the moment, we believe that it is very important for him to get the best possible gaming experience. And for that reason, we are working closely with our partner club FC Juniors OÖ, where Matías will have the opportunity to play for longer periods in a game and therefore adapt to our style of play much faster.
What is Succar missing to earn a spot on the LASK starting team?
I would not say that nothing is “missing”. But like I said before, it is normal that it takes a long time to adjust to this completely new style of football. We don’t want to rush into anything and give you the time you need to adjust, so that one day you can reach your full potential.
What was it that most caught the footballer’s attention to approve his signing?
He has very good ball control and technique, as well as being a very good spiker in front of the goal. And it also has good speed. And as I said before, his very professional attitude and his dedication to his goals also influenced our decision to sign him.
Would you like to continue having Peruvian footballers at LASK? Do you closely follow a League 1 player?
The South American leagues are always interesting for us, there are a lot of talented players playing there and Peru is no exception. But at the moment, our transfer plans are complete and we are not currently looking to sign another player.
