In 2020, the running in Mexico held just 257 races, what it represented an 88% crash, compared to the more than 2,000 events held during 2019, this due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The foregoing represents that the organizers and sponsors of events of running they registered an economic loss of 3,400 million pesos.
In this sense, Juan Ivan Escobar, Marketing manager of Run México, an association that brings together organizers and supplier companies in the field, explained to The financial that recovery from events will occur until 2023.
Last year the market value of running was located at almost 900 million pesos, against the 4.3 billion it was worth in 2019. This business is led by Emoción Deportiva, Total Running, Sport Promotion, As Deporte and Mx Race, together they dominate 70% of the market.
Race organizers estimated that 5 million people, including organizers, logistics and production personnel, medal makers, medical personnel and the t-shirt manufacturers they lost their income.
After the cancellation of massive, face-to-face events, the firms opted for virtual careers, however, these did not have the expected response.
A survey conducted by Run México, 3 out of 10 runners are not interested in participating in virtual races. It stands out that 49.3% agree but look forward to face-to-face races, 11.6% would be interested in some events and the remaining 11% are enthusiastic about having events.
