Pablo Iglesias’ reaction to a tweet from ‘El Chiringuito’ in which Williams is shown speaking in Basque | Athletic | Football24 News English

Football and politics go hand in hand again. The Vice President of the Government, Pablo Iglesias, has reacted together with the spokesmen of Bildu and ERC in Congress, Oskar Matute and Gabriel Rufián, to a tweet from ‘El Chiringuito’ in which Williams was shown speaking in Basque “to prevent the rival from understanding them.”

Iglesias reacted to the tweet of the program directed by Josep Pedrerol with an ironic message: «Basques speaking Basque to each other. Now Spain is breaking ». He was not the only one. Gabriel Rufián alluded to other greats of European football: “Those of BAYERN, JUVE and CHELSEA, too !!!!”. Matute also wanted to leave his position on the matter: «I am anxiously waiting for a proposal to be made to FIFA and the IOC so that Esperanto is the only language allowed in all international sporting events … ».

I anxiously hope that they raise a proposal to FIFA and the IOC so that Esperanto is the only language allowed in all international sporting events … 🤷‍♂️ https://t.co/FSI9VpcC0E

The surprise was capitalized in the Pedrerol team, which began this Friday the sports space with the following words: «This is ‘Jugones’, a program even for politicians ». It was just a preview of what would come next. A video by the journalist from ‘El Chiringuito’, Nico Rodríguez, recounted how Williams on more than one occasion had acknowledged using Basque so that the rival would not understand them, especially in strategy plays such as corners. As demonstrated by ‘Jugones’, the rojiblanco player himself recognized it in an interview last year in ‘El Hormiguero’. To the question asked by one of the ants if they used the Basque language to distract their rivals, Williams answered forcefully: “That’s true.”

The controversial tweet from ‘El Chiringuito’ even liked Williams himself, who gave a ‘like’ to the publication that had caused the reaction of among others, the vice president of the Government. It was not the only surprise they had prepared in ‘Jugones’. This morning they asked the Real Sociedad coach, Imanol Alguacial, about the use that his players gave Euskera on a pitch. The Txuriurdin coach acknowledged that among them “many speak Basque” but that “they also work as a tactic.”

After showing the videos that confirmed Nico Rodríguez’s information in ‘El Chiringuito’, Josep Pedrerol stared at the camera, held on for a couple of seconds and sentenced the block of controversy: Is there anything more to say? This is football, not politics.
