The Liverpool is banned from traveling to Germany for their match against Red Bull Leipzig, corresponding to the Round of 16 of the Champions League, due to the restrictions of the German Interior Ministry to curb the coronavirus pandemic.
The ban on accessing the country, from the United Kingdom, will remain in force -at least- until February 17, 2021, while the date for the match was set one day before at 9:00 p.m.. The decision of the German authorities came this Thursday after the consultation carried out by Leipzig to expose the case of their opponent in the ‘Champions League’ tie.
Nevertheless, German police made it clear that they will not allow the team led by Jürgen Klopp to enter the country, and that they will not make exceptions of any kind. In this way, it will be UEFA who must take action on the matter rescheduling the duel or looking for an alternative venue. At the moment, the federative entity has not ruled on the matter.
Germany closed its borders for airline passengers on Saturday arriving from regions where new coronavirus variants are spreading, including the UK, unless they are German citizens or foreigners residing in Germany. The measure applies until at least February 17.
