The Chilean Soccer Federation (FFCh) made official this Thursday that the playoffs for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, between the women’s teams of Chile and Cameroon, to take place on February 18 and 24, was postponed by FIFA.

The suspension is due to the Covid-19 pandemic that is shaking the world and various logistics restrictions.

The governing body of football announced that both matches will be held on the FIFA Date in April. “The days, times and venues will be informed in due course,” they indicated from the FFCh.

From Quilín they indicated that La Roja led by José Letelier will continue with its preparation for the Olympic playoffs, waiting for the confirmation of a new date for the matches.

One of the big problems for the playoffs to be played in February happened because a good part of the players of the Cameroon team are active in Spain or France, where there are strong problems with the pandemic. This same situation affects the maximum reference of the Chilean team, Christiane Endler, who plays for French PSG.

In addition, due to health protocols, the entry of both teams to the African continent is prohibited, so FIFA decided to postpone the playoff.
