Beyond his recent achievements in the Dakar, even in the company of Fernando Alonso the Toyota Hilux has proven to be one of the best pick-up the world, something to which his various appearances on the show have also contributed Top Gear, among them the unforgettable journey they made crossing Antarctica with a Hilux prepared with gigantic wheels and fenders.
That apparition put those responsible for that wild Hilux on the map, Artic Trucks, a company precisely specialized in transforming 4×4 off-road vehicles and pick-ups, even vans, into real snow monsters capable of tackling any type of terrain, no matter how adverse.
Thus we have seen the unmistakable formula of this Icelandic company in diversity of models of Toyota, Nissan, Lexus, Isuzu, Mercedes and even recently in models of other brands such as a Volkswagen Amarok or a simply monstrous Ford F-150.
And now comes the successor to the one who started it all
And so in this 2021 it turns out that we have returned to the origins, because one of the latest novelties of Artic Trucks is neither more nor less than a version for the recently released Toyota Hilux 2021. A model that receives the name of Hilux AT35 and that is also especially relevant because it even has the backing of its own Toyota.
As in its predecessors, we find a model that has not only gained height above the ground, growing by 65 mm extra, but has seen its entry and exit angles improved by nine and three degrees respectively. Although the most obvious improvement is the new “shoes” that this Hilux wears. Nothing less than a few BFGoodrich KO2 All-Terrain 35-Inch, accompanied by 17-inch wheels and that are now covered by some larger fenders, a hallmark already in Artic Trucks. Meanwhile in the rear there is a reinforcement with anti-roll bars in the area of the bed.
However, the Hilux AT35 offers many other surprises that are not seen with the naked eye, such as an improved Bilstein suspension with custom springs and shock absorbers and improved stabilizer bars that leave a suspension travel with 40 mm extra front and 20 behind compared to the Hilux series.
For his part, the person in charge of moving everything is a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine with some 201 CV power and 500 Nm of maximum torque. A somewhat austere engine compared to the exterior appearance but that sooner or later could be accompanied by even more performance versions.
Artic Trucks
A vehicle to face the next “Filomena” without problems
To celebrate 30 years of Artic Trucks, the preparation also includes some stickers, which accompany the reinforcements on the front and rear of the body and the new wheel arches. All of this is offered in a conversion pack which in the United Kingdom is already offered at a price of 18,780 pounds, about 21.415 euros to the current change that they do not include, of course the donor vehicle. Of course, you will make sure you have one of the most impressive and capable vehicles in your area, especially if you live in an area used to snowfall and the ice.
